Intention

The power of our union truly lies in its members, and right now, we as members are shaping our entire industry. We must start the work from within. We must eliminate the barriers to the Delegate position, making it a fair an equitable pursuit for our diverse membership base to have their voices heard and represented. We must establish anti-racism training for all members inclusive of Equity leadership. We must make easily accessible a study on the pay disparity between BIPOC and white members. We must protect every room our members enter by requiring full disclosure of all staff associated with productions. We must provide a stronger support to members who are victims of harassment and abuse. We must evaluate the pathways to Union membership and support our current members to activate their voice to the fullest. We must be transparent in our actions within the union. To that end, we must disclose the names of leadership within committees, make meeting minutes accessible, and increase communication to our membership base. Social media should not be the hub for Union information, nor the strongest negotiating tool. We must travel through this crisis together, in solidarity, armed with all the knowledge and information at our disposal. We are stronger than we ourselves realize. It’s time to acknowledge our strengths, build up our weaknesses, and create the future of American theater.

Endorsements

Erikka is my go-to Equity member for all Actor-Musician questions. She has worked on contracts ranging from Broadway to regional theatre to creating new works, so she understands the nuance involved from conception to performance. Erikka is smart, dedicated, and has a plan and passion to make our union stronger. Having her as Eastern Principal Delegate would be a true asset for all actors and musicians.

Erica Spyres

Actor, New York

When she mentioned to me she was considering running, I immediately told her that anyone would be lucky to have her voice representing them. Erikka is incredibly smart, has a huge heart and she has worked under the whole gamut of contracts. I really couldn't imagine anyone better suited for the role. Also she's cool as hell.

Jennifer Soo

Actress, Los Angeles

This woman is amazing, and I fully endorse her as a Delegate for Equity’s National Convention. I spent a couple hours chatting with her today on all things equity, life, and everything in between. She has great ideas to bring to the table and has an open mind and heart for new ones. She is clear headed, collaborative, and willing to do the hard work and learning involved with being a representative for all Union members.

Stage Manager, New York

About Your Delegate Nominee

Born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida with a Brooklyn accent. My family is from New York, and I spent my whole childhood dreaming about getting there and performing. My first passion was music, my first love the violin. After locking myself in my room for hours at a time, my mother caved and got me lessons. She also got me into theater so I could get out of that room and socialize. I’ve always been an actor and a musician, before I even accepted you could do both as a career.

My path to New York took me to Philadelphia and Temple University for my BA and Boston and the ART Institute for my MFA. At the ART, I was fortunate to workshop Once and continue with the production to the New York Theatre Workshop and eventually Broadway. In addition to the Production and Off-Broadway contracts, I’ve worked under LORT, Mini, PCLO, Showcase, Development, and Staged Reading agreements, served as deputy and dance captain, and worked as an AFM musician in concerts and Off-Broadway.
